What gifts does December bring?
As a Sunrise Walker, I am always amazed by the light in the early morning. Bathing in that light is always healing during Winter’s long nights and short days.
I turn to Aldo Leopold for his understanding of the gifts of December. In A Sand County Almanac – With Essays on Conservation, Leopold talks about the courage of the pine tree: “pines each with its burden of snow are standing rigorous and straight”. It is here where we find nature’s strength can give us courage, truly a gift of December.
What gifts are you finding this December? Do you find courage from a special tree? Do you find the gifts in a winter storm, or in the patterns birds during this cold season? Maybe you find December’s gifts with family and friends, or maybe walks with your four footer in nature?
This Winter Solstice, please join us to walk the Labyrinth at sunset. This outdoor experience, sunset, on the longest day of the year, can be a December gift.
