The Dawn Biophony is the sound of nature waking up before sunrise.
When does the Dawn Biophony begin?

In the Northern Hemisphere, there are three types of twilight that last about 30″: Astronomical, Nautical and Civil.
The Dawn Biophony begins somewhere between astronomical and nautical twilight. The symphony (biophony) will be about 1 hour. So please join us this year as we experience our own local eco sounds. There will be more specifics on what to wear and bring for the glorious sounds of nature waking up. Just sign up below and you will receive an email as we get closer to June 21st.
“Natural sound is a form of narrative poetry. It is only through the close acoustic observations that we begin to sense the enormous mysteries of a world of life we now need to decipher.” – Dr. Bernie Krause
Join us extra early for our Summer Solstice/Dawn Biophony Sunrise Walk at the Laguna de Santa Rosa June 21, 2018. This early morning walk begins just before nautical twilight. We meet at 4:20 AM at the trailhead just before the Chevron gas station, at the Highway 12 entrance (see map). We will leave promptly! This two-mile walk will take us to the pond and back.
